The Red Tent , by Anita Diamant

Not long ago I read The Red Tent. It’s a wonderful story about Dinah, daughter of Jacob from the book of Genesis. Told in Dinah’s voice, it reveals the ancient rituals of womanhood. Mingled within the story are images of both joy and pain, but also of primal beauty, such as childbirth, that only women can truly understand. But don’t be fooled, as with many of the books of the Old Testament, there is also violence and bloodshed.

I recommend this book very highly, and look forward to your comments on it.

The RVCC Book Blog is open for business

The RVCC Book Blog is a project of the Raymond Village Community Church in Raymond, Maine. The blog has been designed for those who love to read and share our reading experiences. What could be more satisfying than sharing the things that you love: faith, family, and a good book?

All members and friends of RVCC are invited to participate in this blog. If you have read a good book, please tell us about it – or add your comments to what’s already been blogged about a book. Your book doesn’t have to be religious but should be something that has made you think, laugh, cry, or just left you with a good feeling. After all, any book that has touched you deeply probably has a spiritual side to it!

Please spread the word about this blog to others you know who also enjoy a good book. Happy Reading!
